With all the hubbub, you'd think that Apple releasing Boot Camp was the only thing to happen this week. But then you'd be forgetting about all the great analyses and articles about Boot Camp. Even if you're tired of the sheer volume of navel-gazing that's absorbed Apple-watchers this week, I still recommend you take the time to read one or both of the following articles from the two guys who are—in many ways— the Siskel and EbertStatler and Waldorf of the Mac community.
Daring Fireball's John Gruber's piece, Windows: The New Classic, is one of the best summations of this week's Boot Camp news, explaining, among other things, why dual booting Macs are no threat to the OS X we've come to know and love.
Boot Camp portends Apple's intention to become a Windows-only PC manufacturer no more than Classic served as a hedge against Apple's commitment to Mac OS X - that is, not at all.Meanwhile, John Siracusa puts in his two bytes at Fat Bits, taking a particular look at the "special case" of gaming on the Mac platform.
All games are equally "Mac-like" (or "un-Mac-like," depending on how you look at it) once they're up and running full-screen. At that point, the OS is no more important to a PC gamer than to a console gamer. And I'm sure after these two reasoned and insightful commentaries, there will be no need to discuss Boot Camp any further.
