Internet goes Boot Camp crazy; army-related metaphors become repetitive and strained

Boot CampThe net has been deluged with a veritable spate of Boot Camp news; besieged with a cornucopia of cross-platform content; overwhelmed with a plethora of dual boot delights; a—see? I knew this iPod dictionary thing would be bad for me.

Our big brothers at Macworld have thrown themselves wholeheartedly into covering the revolutionary release. There's Macworld podcaster-in-chief Cyrus Farivar's interview with Rob "I'll-try-anything-on-my-Mac-once" Griffiths, as well as Rob's own recounting of his experiences. But besides our brethren, there's a bountiful bevy of buzz on booting into the other side. Allow me to share with you—guide you, if you will—what's being whispered in the hallowed halls of technology. Read on for my roundup.

The New York Times has a write-up, as does BBC News (including one quote from a cynical Slashdot poster: "You get the stability of Windows with the value-of-money of Apple hardware. Sign me up.") Walt Mossberg at the Wall Street Journal got to play with Boot Camp before it was released; he proclaims it pretty practical and praiseworthy. And via Digg comes news that Boot Camp may support Linux booting as well, though definitive proof has yet to be seen. PC World addresses one of my concerns, claiming that high-end games that they tested ran smoothly under XP.

Whew. That was an epidemic of electronic—sorry, sorry. I'll stop now. Promise.
