Hot on the heels of Apple boosting Boot Camp to version 1.3 and Parallels releasing 3.0, VMWare released Fusion beta 4. If you’re a Windows using Mac user, yesterday was quite a day. The latest version of the virtualization giant’s software features Unity, a feature that allows Windows windows to coexist with Mac OS X windows, much like Parallel’s Coherence feature.
It also has better Boot Camp integration (which I consider an essential feature with any of these virtualization products) that includes experimental support for Windows Vista. It’s interesting that anything in a beta product is distinguished as experimental. I have to say that as consumer in this market, the level of competition has been simply outstanding. Parallels and VMware are pushing each other to amazing paces of development. Considering where we are now, I’m excited to see where we are in a year.
