If you’re one of the half-dozen people who’ve dreamed of running Windows Vista on your Mac, this news is for you. Remember how it was illegal to use any version but the $399 Ultimate with software like Parallels Desktop or VMWare Fusion? That’s history: Microsoft finally relented, and you’re now morally allowed to run Vista Home Basic ($199) or Home Premium ($239) in a Mac virtualization environment.
Not that you would want to.
Still, we’re happy to see Microsoft getting a little soft-hearted once in a while. Maybe Bill’s imminent departure is making other Redmond executives shed a tear or two.
we're all still waiting for o'l Jobs to allow Apple users to do the same thing with OSX...
It wouldn't really be Apple users wanting to virtualize OS X, but more pc users. Apple wont do it though, because they like to have a tight reign on their quality control. Once they allow OS X on any piece of hardware there goes their control of the experience.
Probably it finally dawned on MS that by allowing cheap(er) Vista to be virtualized they just might sell a few more copies. Dutch Schultz was right, those nickels and dimes do add up.
