Traveling this morning really screwed up my plans. Roxio emailed me a while back to say that Toast 8 would include TiVoToGo support and asked for it to be kept quiet until today. I would have liked to tell you this morning, but alas, that didn’t happen.
The new version of Toast has a pretty impressive new feature set. First, TiVoToGo for Mac. This feature alone forces me to reevaluate the virtual ban on TiVo in my house. There’s something about subscriptions that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, but now that my TiVo can basically do everything my EyeTV is doing (and more), TiVo is becoming a very attractive option.
Also in the lineup: cataloging. Yeah, Disco had it first, but I just prefer to turn to Toast. Blu-ray disc burning. I probably won’t buy a separate burner for this. Jam features. I’ve never had much a reason to use Jam, but the screenshot is pretty.
I do have to say, I am not a fan of their pricing structure though. They expect customers to shell out another $80. That’s a measly $20 off. This is the reason that Disco was developed. Wise up. That’s a crappy price point.

The way it usually works, you can buy Toast new for less than the upgrade price. It's pretty broken. Just be happy the same people who set the prices don't develop the software, or I'm sure we'd have a whole 2 new features (see: Quicken).
