As a proud Mac user, I’ll gladly spend money on products that support my platform of choice. That’s why I love Sling. Their Slingbox will take video from a variety of sources and let you watch it on PCs, phones, and yes, even Macs. You can watch your TV from virtually anywhere. If you attach it to a DVR, you can even remotely control that, giving you access to the same features.
At CES, Sling announced version 2.0 of their SlingPlayer software. The big new feature is a built-in 60 minute buffer. That allows you some DVR type functionality like pausing the stream and clipping portions that you can share with friends through Sling’s website. That feature will be huge for people that want to capture that oh-so-exciting sports play.
They’ll also be adding a built-in content guide, allowing you to figure out what’s on TV without toting your copy of TV Guide. It’s in private beta now with a public preview slated for in a couple months. I’m thrilled that since EchoStar acquired the company, the development of their product line hasn’t halted.
