It’s only been a mere year and five months since Netflix announced their intention to bring their movie streaming feature to the Mac. It’s flown by, hasn’t it? I’m a little more than disappointed with the progress they’ve made in all that time. Yesterday turned out to be a big day for the movie rental service because of more than just their new API.
They also promised Mac support for their Watch It Now feature by the end of the year. That’s a few scant months away. No more waiting. No more stalling. No more bringing up Fusion just to get my money’s worth. I’m genuinely excited. While I certainly watched a few dozen movies when I figured out the streaming movies worked just fine in virtualization, it was still a hassle.
Additionally, anybody that has Watched It Now will tell you the “It” part of that phrase can be a bit lacking. While some classic and wonderful movies are definitely in that library, it’s far from complete. It’s also lacking recent releases. That changes by the end of the year as well. Movies being played on Starz will be added to that list. That’s not everything, but it does include some great recent hits. I may lose the end of the year to being holed up watching all these movies. They will have “Superbad” after all.
My wife and I have found it to be a great source for TV shows. We're watching Heroes now since we missed Season 1 and 2. It's great to be able to watch 3-4 shows a night. I can't image watching shows 1 episode a week anymore. So I hope their selection of TV series expands.
The announcement of Mac support is great news. Having to fire up Fusion and run IE is a bit inconvenient and sometimes a little jerky. I'd love to be able to watch shows/movie native on my Mac Pro. I hope they don't drop the ball on this one.
As a PPC Mac user, I couldn't even duel boot to get "Watch It Now!". I spent $99 on the Netflix Player by Roku.
It's everything people said it was. Small, fast, easy to use, and almost no content.
I've been watching Miami Vice and Quantum Leap. for the last month.,
Then yesterday Netflix signed Stars. Last night I watched Superbad, and tonight it's Catch and Release.
