There’s little doubt in my mind that the future of television distribution is online. But whether it’s going to be from sort of monolithic corporation (even if it be our own dear Apple), or a number of different competing vendors, or even a grassroots approach, well, the jury ain’t saying.
AOL is the latest entrant in the TV fray; the country’s biggest ISP is offering ad-supported streams of thirty series (all owned by its Warner Brothers division) at its In2TV service, including 80s staples Eight is Enough and Growing Pains (featuring teen heartthrob turned Christian evangelist, Kirk Cameron).
Of course, unsurprisingly, the service requires Windows XP and Windows Media Player, so Mac users who need their fix of Lois & Clark will have to stick with those old-fashioned DVDs.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
