I’ll admit it. I know very little about video production. Further evidence can be had in my virtual silence for the first third of the last podcast. However, as an engineer, I have heard of white papers and Apple has delivered one all about Apple ProRes 422 (warning: PDF link).
It’s a quick 11 page document complete with graphs telling you why Apple’s new codec rocks so hard. It reads a bit more like press material than a technical document, but it does explain how it’s meant to help lower budget productions and laptop users work with HD despite normally large files. I’m sold. Now Apple just has to sell me on all the hardware and software to use this stuff. Then they need to come up with a project for me to work on.
On second thought, I’ll leave that to Scott and all of you. I’ll go crawl back into my software development hovel.
