I fancy myself pretty good with video, but I’m definitely on the prosumer side of the video-editing equation (I know my way around Final Cut Pro, but I can’t make it sit up and beg). Given my meager requirements, I have no need whatsoever for Final Cut Server, Apple’s video workflow solution, but that doesn’t mean I’m not intrigued by it.
Charlie Miller over at O’Reilly has written a great overview of what Final Cut Server is, what it does, and why you might want it (or why you really don’t need it but still kind of want to run it on a Mac mini somewhere because, while that wouldn’t be practical, it would be awesome—and that’s half the fun). Miller doesn’t go into too much depth, since this is an overview and all, but he does cover all the big ticket items and answers the most important question: what the heck does a video workflow solution do anyway?
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
