ATI releases wondrous new HD TV product

Posted by Derik DeLong | Thursday, November 15, 2007 6:29 AM PT

ATI TV Tuner ATI, now the subsidiary of the Intel-jealous AMD, has released ATI TV Wonder 650 Combo USB. It’s a USB TV tuner! Huzzah! Well, ok, we already have El Gato TV tuners.

That doesn’t make ATI’s new offering a bad product or even a bad idea. So let’s review its features. It has two tuners. One is for catching broadcast HD while the other services standard definition content. So far so good. That’s a pretty cool aspect. It also has built-in hardware encoding (good for less CPU heavy machines). The bundled software also allows one to record content.

That’s all aces, but it leaves me with a question. For those of us that don’t have an Apple remote, how can we control this? Oh, I know, use one of ATI’s Remote Wonder remotes. Wait. That’s right; they never updated that software to work with Intel Macs.

Not confidence inspiring.

I'm annoyed that nowhere is there info to be found on what listings you can get. Elgato can't get Canadian Listings. Can ATI?

Good luck contacting AMD with a pre-sales question too.
