What a difference a week makes. We mentioned the widescreen hack for Mail.app last week, and the phenomenon has only grown in stature since. The project has an official webpage now, and an official name: Letterbox (the developer, Aaron Harnly aka Mithras, took my suggestion when I posted it to the original Ars forum thread).
The package has attracted a lot of attention, not only from lowly blogs like us, but from a few big names: Om Malik of Business 2.0, Merlin Mann of 43 Folders, and one of the original members of the Ars thread was Diesel Sweeties cartoonist R Stevens. Aaron isn’t letting this success go to his head: he’s hard at work on adding new features to Letterbox, and he’s already released an update to last week’s version.
Meanwhile, I came across a fun little tidbit about the bundle. I was searching through my system log due to some problems I’ve been having with AirPort when I noticed something odd. A closer look found this:
