Sometimes, one desktop just isn’t enough. But, if you’re like me, extra monitors can be too expensive and space-consuming to be worth the while. That’s why I use VirtueDesktops to have virtual desktop workspaces. VirtueDesktops was just released version 0.54 beta 2, which includes a lot of bug fixes, such as fixing some memory leaks, new UI tweaks, and more.
VitueDesktops is, as always, free and available as a Universal Binary.

I'd hate to be one of those "this is soooo old" commenters, but this beta was released over a month ago. It was not *just* released. (Even the first commenter on TUAW pointed this out.)
Please don't rely on TUAW for information. I love TUAW, but VirtueDesktops 0.54b2 was released on 2007/01/10 and not "just released".
Glad that others have noted that this has been released for a while since I thought I was going mad for a moment. Anyway, this is the first version of the application that I have tried and should note that it craps-out on me on occasion (mostly when opening the Preferences panel) which can strand applications on a desktop that doesn't exist anymore. Everything is OK once VirtueDesktops is reloaded but there's definitely a few bugs still in the works here so be warned.
