Last week, Scott posted a tip about disabling those annoying updates that you never end up installing. But what you don’t know about those updates could kill you. Well, not kill really, more like use up your precious hard disk space.
While Scott’s hint does prevent those updates from installing, it doesn’t do anything about extraneous updates that have already been installed. This tip, from an astute Mac OS X Hints reader, explains how he reclaimed several hundred megabytes of space by deleting old iPod updaters that software update had installed. I had to do this not long ago, as the 10GB hard drive on my iBook was nearing capacity, and it reclaimed me a bunch of space. Of course, if you’re short on HD space, you can always check out Dan Frakes’s recent roundup of utilities that let you track down errant big files at Macworld’s Mac Gems blog.
