Transmission updated to version 1.0; finally leaves beta

TransmissionMy favorite torrent client for Mac OS X has just received its first non-point update and, I am glad to report, has left the beta stage without any complications.

There are a lot of changes in this version, some of which are listed below:

  • An updated icon
  • Option to prefer not using encryption
  • Ability to set global and per-torrent number of connections
  • Time Machine will ignore incomplete downloads (Leopard only, of course)
  • Statistics window
  • Revamped interface, more in line with Leopard’s look

Congratulations! Would you like to see the baby now?

In related news, the recently launched web interface for Transmission, Clutch, has also been updated to version 0.2 and is more compatible with Transmission now.

Yes, it's great to have this app now out of beta. Hopefully the speed and stability issues have been addressed and made to work more like the 0.8x versions did.

However...

Have you seen the new UI for this app?

It is absolutely hideous!

Hopefully with all the negative feedback that is being posted at Version Tracker, the UI will revert back to it's original and colourful look.

Oh, I whole heartedly agree. It looks ugly right now.

What the hell were they thinking! I've just clicked the grey pill and the toolbar is hidden for me. I can't stand to look at it.

On the other hand, I love the automatic resizing feature. Keeps the window nice and trim.

Just in case you did not know, that is not a new feature. :)
