SuperDuper! going all synergistic with Time Machine

SuperDuper! Backing up your data is a primary concern for all computer users, yet few of us still do it. With Leopard, we have Time Machine (which I’m still impressed with and is working well with the 1 TB Firewire 800 RAID disk I made). Prior to that, I’d always recommended SuperDuper!. While it doesn’t have revisions of files and directories, as a cloning back up tool, it’s excellent.

Loyal users that have moved on to Leopard have been waiting for word that it’s safe to start using their favorite cloner, and it’s coming soon. In fact, it’s going to be a whole lot better than I thought it would be. You’ll be able to use your Time Machine disk as the destination for your SuperDuper! backups without either interfering with the other. I’ll probably still use separate disks, but this is good for most everyone else.

This also means that your Time Machine backup disk will be made bootable by using SuperDuper, solving that little issue that most people have with it. If you’re on the road with nothing but your Time Machine disk and you have an incident, you can just reboot and be up and running in no time. The update is coming soon, and I can’t wait.

I wonder what would happen if I used the drive I have. I have an external drive to which I was making manual backups. I started using Time Machine on it. Both my old manual backups and my Time Machine backups are there. Would those manual backups be preserved? I'd like to keep those there. As I still run manual backups on certain items to make sure I have multiple copies of the files.
