Software updates from Apple, served warm and fresh

Software Update iconLaunch Software Update, folks, or visit the Apple Support website and you’ll find a few poppin’ fresh updates waiting for you. If you do the latter, be aware that not all of the updates apply to all users, so be selective in what you download. Here they are, listed in no particular order:

Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.2: As has been the norm for a while now, this update extends RAW file compatibility for both Aperture and iPhoto to include some more cameras. It also requires you to restart your Mac. Is it just me or are these annoying restart requiring updates becoming increasingly common these days?

Server Admin Tools 10.5.5: If the terms “remote server administration” get your engine revving, this update’s for you. Apple also has a lengthy knowledge base document prepared with all there is to know about this update.

Apple Remote Desktop 3.2.2 Client and Admin: Weighing in at 3MB and 30MB respectively, these are updates for the remote management capabilities of Mac OS X. Check out Apple’s extensive documentation to know more about what they contain.

That’s it for today, folks. As far as software updates go, this is as uninteresting a list as there could possibly be. I guess not everyday can be a Tuesday after all.

Great - I've got a brand-new D700 that I've had to change to shooting JPEGs instead of my favored NEF RAW files - this will let me go back to shooting the way I prefer

You are right about how annoying the restarts are becoming.

I thought Mac OS was Unix certified?

Unix usually does not require restarts unless the kernel needs to be reloaded.

On a FreeBSD system I managed, it even did live kernal updates.

I hope they back off on this - it is very MS Windows like (except it warns first instead of at the end).
