Skype 2.6 formally released

Posted by Derik DeLong | Thursday, May 17, 2007 6:34 AM PT

Skype Just over a month ago, we told you about the Skype 2.6 beta. Yesterday, it was released as a final version. Just to recap, the new version features:

  • Call Transfer. (Mac exclusive!)
  • Join public chats.
  • See when others are typing with typing indicators. (See that busy pen on the screenshot?)
  • Call Skype Prime services to learn new skills or have fun.

I’m really pleased that Skype hasn’t gone the route of many software companies that release a Mac version of their software only to ignore it more and more as time goes on. Skype, even despite buyout by eBay, has continued its commitment to our platform. The new version even goes a step further by supporting those users that have continued their refusal to buy a headset, opting instead for built-in microphone and speakers.

As I’ve said before, Skype is a travel essential and only becomes more valuable with time.
