Skype 2.6 beta adds Mac-exclusive Call Transfer

SkypeWhile Skype is one of my favorite Mac programs, it does frustrate me a little bit that most of its coolest new features come out on Windows first, and sometimes never on Mac. Well today, I, and Mac users in general, get maybe not the last laugh, but at least some gloating.

Today, Skype unveiled the 2.6 beta version of its Mac software. In addition to the normal bug fixes and greater stability, the Skype 2.6 beta includes a special, Mac-only feature — Call Transfer. Basically, Call Transfer means that if you get a call, you can then “pass along” the call to another one of your Skype contacts (who has to be using either Skype 2.6 beta for Mac or version 3.0 for Windows).

Skype 2.6 beta for Mac also added some Skype Windows features, such as the ability to join public chats, call Skype Prime numbers, and use DTMF tones in Skype-to-Skype calls.

Overall, this seems like a great new release, and I hope that Skype continues to recognize the Mac platform and give it the same amount of attention as the Windows version.

This version started giving me problems. I called my gf twice and both times i noticed her voice would drop or cut out ever so slightly.

I thought it was strange and not the usual kind of interference that I have come to expect from skype sometimes.. so i re-downloaded version 2.5 and the problems went away.
