Our good old buddy Glenn Fleishman is at it again. This time he’s confirmed the price for the 802.11n Enabler Patch that we mentioned the other day directly with Apple. It turns out that the patch will run you only $1.99, even less than originally projected. At this price it’s a no-brainer to download the patch and grab what was yours by birth right.
Someday, perhaps soon, Apple will ship all Macs with 802.11n hardware support. Until then, well, you can just add $2 to the price tag of that $2,000 MacBook Pro you’ve been eyeing.

If you buy the new apple extreme then you get the software enabler free. why would you need the enabler if you didn't have the router.
Like I commented on Scripting News, charging people for the capability that a system already has makes as much sense as pulling a pin off of a Pentium to justify a price cut (I didn’t like that either). Why does Apple make anything if people are willing to just throw money at them?
