Saft finally moves from stripes to spots

SaftSaft is a plugin for Safari that puts it on steroids. From advertisement blocking to full screen mode and Growl support to URL shortcuts and tab thumbnails, it has everything covered. For a full list of features, visit the developer, Hao Li’s website. Till today, the InputManager plugin only worked with Safari 2 on Tiger but with today’s update, it has announced its arrival on Leopard and full compatibility with Safari 3.

Saft was the only reason I used Safari in the days of Safari 2 but ever since Apple has released Safari 3, I’ve never really missed the $12 plugin that once used to be the entire reason I used Safari. With draggable tabs and efficient find-in-page features, Safari has finally come on its own and does not need plugins like Saft to make it useful. But then again, the developer is offering a free trail so I just might give it a try.

Update: The recent security update by Apple had broken the Saft plugin and the latest update was released to address that. It has, however, been released for Leopard for a while now. I’m very sorry for the mistake. Thanks to Goobimama for the heads-up!

Hmm. I've been using Saft all this while now on Leopard. Sure today is the day of the update?

And I agree with you. Personally I don't know what the purpose of Saft is anymore (at least on my machine). Safari has everything I need out of the box..

Oh, I cannot believe I made such a stupid mistake. Thanks for pointing it out! I've updated the post to acknowledge it. :)

Even with the improvements in Safari 3, Saft is still has lots to offer IMO. Auto-hiding the Downloads window is worth $12 alone! I also can't live without the ability to insert horizontal separator bars in lists of bookmarks with empty folders named "-".

Wow, unbelievable. You are joking right? There is no way Safari 3 eliminates the need for Saft. In fact I was using Camino almost exclusively until I came across Saft a few weeks ago. Saft makes everthing Safari 3 should have been but is not.

The feature that is worth $12 alone is the simple and I do mean so simple it should have been included in Safari 3, the option to open all new windows in tabs. I can't tell you hou ultra annoying it is to come across a site that has a link pointing to another site that once clicked on opens up an entire new window! Before you know it, you'll have dozens of windows open. Since the advent of Opera and Firefox which has made tab browsing incredibly popular, why is the Mac world still in a 1990's experience?

I can't believe Apple neglected a simple and elementary option to just open new windows in tabs instead. Nothing complicated, just a simple option yet it is not there. Saft corrects this silly over site for me.

Oh and need I even get started on session saving? Although Macs rarely crash, this is a great feature. Unless you have something to hide, which most of us guys do (^__^), it's cool to have the last window or last multiple tabs opened in a previous browsing session to be reopened when starting Safari back up.

Anyway for me Saft is a must have, cannot live without pluggin for Safari. Safari 3 is no threat to the Saft plugin by far, at least not yet. Maybe Safari 4 will be but who knows.
