Finally. With the just-released 7.2 update, QuickTime Player can finally display videos full screen, something that was previously only achievable by paying for the $30 QuickTime Pro. In my mind, it was only a matter of time, and I’m glad Apple got their act together and provided this basic feature that should’ve been there long ago.

If you do own the Pro version though, this update, available from Apple’s website and Software Update, also adds two new export options specifically for, what else, the iPhone. The first one, Export for iPhone, creates an iPhone-sized .m4v file, while the files exported by the second, Export for iPhone (Cellular), sport a .3gp extension (3GP is a video format commonly used on mobile phones).

Lastly, you’ll be glad to know the update also “addresses critical security issues and delivers […] updates to the H.264 codec”.

Update: It’s worth mentioning that iTunes 7.3.1 has also been unleashed, and it fixes a music library problem many people were having after installing 7.3.

We have also been blessed with an Office 2004 for Mac 11.3.6 Update (which fixes vulnerability issues mostly).

Hu-friggin-zzah.

Now I can stop relying on that Quicksilvered applescript to go fullscreen (and now I can get out of it, too).

Seeing that I play all my quicktime videos from iTunes, I have been able to play full-screen forever.
