One of my favorite applications for my Mac is iGetter, a download manager and accelerator. It seamlessly integrates with Safari, intercepts your downloads, and downloads them at much faster speeds. In this part of the world, where high speed broadband access is still a distant dream, an application like iGetter is a boon.
Though the previous version (2.6.1) was already compatible with Leopard, Presenta recently announced an updated version of the application that is now optimized for Apple’s latest operating system and fully supports, among other things, the downloads stack feature. This means that the custom icon in the downloads stack now dynamically updates to reflect the status of the download and changes to the actual icon once the download is complete.
Other features include “completely reworked” integration with Safari (I don’t know why that was needed, but it must be an improvement), support for Firefox versions 1.5.x, 2.x, and 3.x betas, and several bug fixes and stability improvements. This update is free for existing users and the licensing fee for new users is $25.

What about Speed Download 5? Which is better?
Speed Download 5 is slicker and more feature-rich, but for the task of download acceleration and management, iGetter is definitely better.
Most importantly, Speed Download 5, once installed, intercepts all your downloads from Safari and you cannot disable it temporarily. It does have the option to do so but it does not work. So if you run into any download that does not support download accelerators, you're pretty much screwed.
iGetter allows you to disable itself easily and that alone makes it worth its weight in gold (which, come to think of it, is not saying much). :)
