Header At some point in our our lives, we have all asked the question whether there are other good alternatives to Microsoft Office on our Macs. Well, there are. You could get OpenOffice.org, but that runs in X11 and isn’t even a native OS X program. Enter NeoOffice, the Mac alternative to Office. NeoOffice takes the existing OpenOffice.org for OS X and puts it into a native Java program that runs without X11. Now, NeoOffice has been updated to version 2.0 Alpha 4. This update includes many new features, mainly being released in an Intel version in addition to a PowerPC one (interestingly, NeoOffice didn’t make a Universal Binary). Alpha 4 also fixes several other issues, which can be found here. Even though NeoOffice looks like a pretty good program, it still isn’t as good as MS Office to me. For one thing, it lacks Aqua buttons, though this feature is being developed. But hey, if it gets me to stop using a Microsoft product, it can’t be too bad.
