I love, love, love Bare Bones Software. I look forward to all their software updates and new products. The one exception is Mailsmith whose lack of HTML mail and IMAP support make it essentially useless to me. I use BBEdit and Yojimbo on a daily basis. Side note: Scott was wrong, wrong, wrong about Yojimbo.
BBEdit, Yojimbo, and TextWrangler have been updated to 8.6, 1.4, and 2.2 respectively. BBEdit and Yojimbo mostly sport bug fixes. TextWrangler has a very long change. It’s a bit long, but one highlight is the ability to edit binary plist files (which in the normal case are stored as ascii text and not binary data, though both are valid).
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
Yojimbo has it's strengths, simplicity being one of them. I find other solutions much more comprehensive. And the price is too high, always has been. But it's got barebones on the box, so people eat it up.
I always seem to return to TextWrangler after trying and using other text editors for editing HTML.
But 2.2 crashed on me within a couple of minutes of using it for the first time so I've gone back to 2.1.3 for now.
The problem with Mailsmith, which I use as my main email client, is that the last update was in March, 2005. I don't particularly care about IMAP support and "lack" of HTML support is still one of the things I like best about Mailsmith. However, I think Mailsmith and InDesign are the only two apps I use frequently which do not have Universal binaries. I'd be happy if they'd fix some of the long standing bugs and release a Univseral binary.
I've only tried two pieces of software in the same realm of Yojimbo and I really like it, but I need to have a similar package for Windows. :(
I've yet to find one, so I'm not going to purchase a license until I do.
