Many moons ago in the month of December we alerted you to a security vulnerability which affected Microsoft Office. A week later we informed you that Microsoft had fixed the vulnerability with a patch (which was shortly pulled). And yet one more week later we relayed a message from the MacBU at Microsoft as to why the update was pulled.
Well now I am happy to inform you that, while the iPhone was being drooled over by thousands of Mac users, Microsoft’s MacBU was hard at work on the 11.3.3 update. It was released on January 9th, the same day as Steve’s Keynote. This MS Office patch:
Contains several updates to enhance security and stability, including fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer’s memory with malicious code.
Sure, it may be no news of an awesome new gadget from Apple, or even the next version of MS Office for Mac, but it’s sure nice to know that Microsoft still cares about the security of us Mac users.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
