While we still may be a bit cloudy about the MacBook Pro Software Update 1.0, we now know that it’s necessary in order to apply the new MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.3. Apple describes its purpose thusly:
This EFI Firmware update fixes a display issue on 2.2/2.4GHz 15-inch MacBook Pro models.
Ooh! Ooooh! First reader to guess which display issue wins a Snickers bar (that you’ll have to buy yourself). I’m so totally guessing that it’s the issue that it’s just too damn pretty.

Well I've had an issue where very occasionally the backlight would just flash of and then come back on. It's only happened 3 times since I've had the laptop so I wasn't that concerned about it. I assume that because this is only for the LED models that it has something to do with that.
