Apple has released two Java updates today; one for OS X 10.4 and one for 10.5. Java Update 2 for 10.5 “delivers improved reliability and compatibility for Java SE 6, J2SE 5.0 and J2SE 1.4.2 on Mac OS X 10.5.4 and later.”
Java Release 7 for Mac OS X 10.4 delivers “improved reliability and compatibility for Java 2 Platform Standard Edition 5.0 and Java 1.4 on Mac OS X 10.4.11 and later”. It also updates J2SE 5.0 to version 1.5.0_16 and Java 1.4 to version 1.4.2_18.
The Java Update 2 is a big boy, weighing in at 136.4 MB. You can download it by opening Software Update (Apple menu > Software Update) or by visiting Apple’s support website. The slimmer, daintier Java Release 7 is only 79.7 MB and can also be downloaded through Software Update, or from the support site.
