We’ve gotta find a new way of dealing with Apple’s terse software updates. Seriously, they’re not giving us very much to work with here. For example, they just released iWeb 2.0.1, the first—but I’m guessing probably not last—update to iLife ‘08’s web publishing component.
This update addresses issues with upgrading and publishing iWeb 1.x websites.Hey, this is great for users of iWeb 1.x, don’t get me wrong. But Apple’s clearly not thinking about the bloggers out there. How are we supposed to turn a one-line update into something postworthy?
And so I introduce you to our new feature: Apple Software Update Haikus. Ahem:
Apple’s new iWeb
fixes problems with old sites
Happy? Kthxbye.
Okay, so we may still have some refining to do. We’ll get back to you.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
Ha. Isn't it weird that they don't go into detail regarding some of their updates. What's the big secret anyway?
On another note, what did you guys do with Kate? I haven't heard from her in a while.
Well if you had an old iWeb '06 website and you upgraded to iWeb '08, every time iWeb would launch it would ask you to find your Domain file. This update fixes this, and remembers where your Domain file is located.
Well, I for one wish I could update to 2.0.1. but alas, I can’t even get 2.0.0! I ordered both iLife and iWork on the 10th. My package arrived on the 15th. It contained 2 copies of iWork. Curses! If they are going to scramble my order up, why couldn’t it have been, you know, 2 copies of iLife? I already have the 30 day trial of iWork. You can read all the details on my blog if you’re so inclined. But Apple has assured me my copy of iLife is on its way. Again. Even though I have *another* pending debit for the amount of iLife (or iWork… who knows?) What, are they charging me for the extra copy of iWork? I fedexed it back to them yesterday with the shipping label they provided. Going to call them today and find out what that debit is for. Another excuse to use my iPhone!
@Moe, take a look at the "dedicated team of bloggers" link on the right.
@Moe: Unfortunately, Kate had other pressing responsibilities, and so she had to leave us. We're all pretty bummed about that, but I know she's still around reading the blog, if nothing else.
Well... Kate if you are reading this... I'll miss you! Things sure do change fast. Thanks for the heads up. I consider myself part of the "MacUser" family, so I appreciate the notice Dan & Dave-o.
Also, can you guys shed some light on the new iMovie. I am hearing some very disheartening reviews. What's your take on it?
Yes, I'm here "in spirit" or whatever that means. Now I have to get back to the dungeon--Kate Marshall
Update: my iLife finally arrived the day before yesterday. I installed, then updated, then ran. I like. The problem I had with the previous is gone. Namely, forever publishing changes. Change a single character, republish, wait 20 minutes. Done – and with with iWeb using up a ginormous amount of memory, both physical and virtual. So much, that I’d have to wave the mouse over the dock slowly, from side to side to get it to start magnifying. Then go through each already open application, and wait… so that they could pull in the amount of memory they wanted after being robbed from iWeb. I have a few hundred blogs on my web site, so iWeb acted very sluggish after the first 100 or so. Crazy.
Update on the pending debit: they got rid of, as well as refunding an entirely new amount to my account. The price of an iWork or iLife. So I had to call again so they can take that money back.
