HierarchicalDock updated to version 1.2

Posted by Aayush Arya | Thursday, January 03, 2008 10:45 AM PT

HierarchicalDockEternal Storms Software has released an update to their application HierarchicalDock, which brings back the power of hierarchical menus to the Leopard Dock taken away by the introduction of Stacks.

Instead of dragging a folder directly to the Dock, drag it into the application window of HierarchicalDock and it works its magic on it to make it immune to the wrath of Stacks. Once the folder starts glowing in the aftermath of the application’s voodoo, just drag it to the Dock as you would any other folder. You’ll notice that the icon remains static (the first symptom of success) and that when you click on it, it doesn’t fan out or show you a grid but shows the pre-Leopard menu style instead.

Among other things, this version brings the following changes:

• Show Finder’s color labels
• Show number of items in subfolders
• Per-folder settings
• Advanced support for Quick Look
To see the full list of changes, go through the release notes. The universal and freeware application is available for download on the official website and “donations are greatly appreciated”.

If you’re unsatisfied with this one, you can always try out Quay, which we mentioned a couple of months ago. Also, rumor has it that an upcoming update to Leopard will bring back this functionality to the Dock, so if you buy that, you can always wait patiently.

ok ok , however - can anybody find out what happened with Unsanity? Looks like that company is dead. Its not even possible to add comments to their weblog.

I understand this is not the right place to talk about this, but having Fruit Menu, we don't need anything else . . . and it looks like nobody cares . . .

This is definitely a nice program improvement. In the meantime, I'd gone to the (free) program Xmenu from the Devon Technology folks--it sits in the menu bar.

I'll now have to see which motor memory wins the day...

Anyone know how to change the stack icons and use this tool at the same time?
