Handbrake rises from its ashes

Handbrake After dying and briefly returning as MediaFork, the DVD-ripping program Handbrake is back, and packs a punch.

The 0.8.5b1 version of Handbrake offers some great new features, including Apple TV and PS3 support, chapter markers, surround sound, and user presets. In addition, the cross-platform Handbrake is now available for i386 and PPC Linux and as command line and GUI app for Windows. Also, keep in mind that as a beta, 0.8.5 won’t be as stable as the older 0.7.1.

All together, I’m thrilled that Handbrake has re-merged with MediaFork and is back again offering a great app for ripping DVDs.

does anyone know if handbrake rips not only the movie but all the titles and special features as well?

While I applaud new features, I'd better appreciate work on the core functionality: e.g. ripping DVDs.

Too many current DVDs are unreadable, due to copy protection measures (empty frames, bad checksums, etc.) added by the studios(most notably Sony).

What's REALLY needed is for Apple to support ripping DVDs into iTunes, encoding them to your personal account the same way it currently does videos and movies purchased from the iTunes store.

That way we get more content to watch on our notebooks and iPods and Apple TVs, the media industry is protected, and Apple gets to sell more hardware.

Can anyone else figure out how to download the new version... the link keeps taking me to megaupload and nothing happens.
