Seems like just yesterday that Derik was talking about the 10.5.1 update being worked on, and here it is, delivered hot and piping from Apple. I haven’t gone ahead and applied quite yet—want to make sure my Time Machine backup is up to date before doing so—but as expected, 10.5.1 is really mainly about the bug fixes.
The big news is that the infamous Finder copy bug has been fixed. Whew; I do actually move files between volumes from time to time, so it’s good to see that patched. Other major upgrades go to Back My Mac (has anybody been able to use this yet?), Mail, and the Security/Firewall (I was particularly amused to see this change: “In Security preferences’ Firewall tab, the “Block All” option is now called “Allow Only essential services”; yep, just rename it, thanks).
There’s a host more improvements in the 40MB update—something for everyone, really. If you’ve gone ahead and updated, feel free to give us the skinny on anything you’ve noticed.

Dammit, just fix Spaces already. Time will tell if the Mail update does enable the hand-off between Mail and iCal for events to work automatically but beyond that my only other issue with Leopard is Spaces. It will be interesting to see if the update addresses some of my Spaces issues, such as switching to another Space without request, but 10.5.1 definitely does not address the issue of not selecting the last used application in a Space when returning to it. For example, I was reading email in Mail in Space 1, switched to VMWare Fusion running in Space 2 but when I switched back to Space 1 I was defaulted to a new Finder window - why? I love the idea and potential for Spaces but the current implementation remains maddening.
Before going to 10.5.1 I couldn't even see my other 10.5 Mac in the Finder sidebar. After rebooting into 10.5.1 I can see my other Mac in the Finder but can't connect to share the screen. Might need to get 10.5.1 on the other Mac before it'll work, or it could be that I don't have NAT-PMP or UPnP in my routers. Seems to me I shouldn't have to mess with my routers to make this work; if Skype can do it, why can't Apple? The iChat-with-auto-accept method of sharing desktop works fine for me.
Abot Leopard:
1. Why do click in a Folder in the Dock (by default) does not open that folder?
in the form of fan or grid are OK. But for me that it has to be an option.
2. Command-F is not the sane as in 10.4.
Why I can not set an specific search and kept it by default? For example, in 10.4, the 99% of my searches were By Name and includes. Now in 10.5.1 I have to click on the + symbol to set that specific criteria every time I want to perform a search...
The aspect of specific icons (Apps, Docs and so on) are very similar and confusing. Maybe they need the center draw to be in color?
Back to my Mac used once on linksys wrt54g; perfect, screen sharing all the bells & whistles; added airport extreme at home...nothing since; not able to make connection. Firewall ? Router setup ? what ? looking for suggestions. Thanks
