Derik “sounded the alarm” on Apple’s phone home “scandal” (which, I have on good authority, is scandalicious). While I agree that this seems pretty innocuous to me, I also realize that many people aren’t thrilled about their computer giving out information without notification (ahem, Windows). Fortunately, if you’re really concerned, there is a way to disable it, according to the folks over at Wired’s Cult of Mac blog (as always, mess around with things like this at your own risk):
[T]he program can be disabled with a little work on the OS X Terminal. There you are, then. Disaster averted. Only now you’ll have to keep your own widgets up-to-date.Launch a window and enter:
sudo mv /etc/mach_init.d/dashboardadvisoryd.plist /etc/mach_init.d/
dashboardadvisoryd.plist.disabledAnd then reboot. It’s out of your hair.
