I have personally been a long time Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Studio user myself. But it’s no secret that I’ve dabbled in some of the competitor’s products, one of which is Avid. Personally, I preferred the simplicity, integration, and creative license that FCS allowed me, but there are certainly plenty of places in the industry where Avid is still the standard.
Now that the Mac Pro has been released, and Leopard been previewed, Avid wants back in. As of yesterday, Avid has announced that new versions of their products will support all Intel Macs, with the Mac Pro (obviously) in mind—both Avid Xpress Pro and Media Composer were mentioned specifically. With the low price and high customizability of the new Mac Pro, this could be a major step for Avid, as it is still the only major company in the industry to support project compatibility on both Mac and PC platforms.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
I'm glad that Avid isn't abandoning the Mac.
