Audio Hijack ProAudio Hijack Pro, the audio recording application from Rogue Amoeba, was updated to v2.8 yesterday; it’s a free update for all existing paid users. Along with the ability to hijack audio from currently running applications and an update to the System Audio Extra, this version brings full-fledged Leopard compatibility to the table, which means that Rogue Amoeba’s total score of Leopard compatibility is now one hundred percent. Props to them for maintaining compatibility with Tiger too.

Among a host of other audio related stuff (most of which involves words like LSDPA and PassThru and several others that I don’t have the first clue about), Audio Hijack Pro allows you to enhance and record the audio from any application on your system. Basically, if you can hear it, Audio Hijack Pro can record it. It features a built-in recording bin and stored session list, boasts robust recording options and powerful audio effects, and supports multiple input sources. You get the idea.

If you like what you see, it is available for a price of $32 (not a penny more, and thankfully, not a penny less) and a “fully-functional” demo is available for you to try out.

By fully-functional, they mean that it will insert an annoying noise into your recording after the first ten minutes which, if you aren’t forewarned about, might scare the hell out of you. I just spent the past five minutes freaking out, trying to figure out what had caused my Mac’s speakers to go crazy. I actually stood at a distance for a couple of minutes; you never know what might happen in this modern age of exploding notebooks.

So yeah, go check it out.
