I was mighty impatient when I got my Mac Pro. I’d waited so long that a minute wasn’t to spare and bought the stock model the moment it reached the local Apple Store (waiting for shipping is for suckers). For that, I missed out on a discounted price on the very fancy Radeon X1900 XT. Sure, if I upgrade now, I’ll have two cards that I can use to drive my two displays, but that’s pricey. You prudent buyers now have an update to install.
Apple’s documentation of updates continues to improve.
What’s New in this Version
The ATI Radeon X1900 GT Firmware Update will update the firmware on all of the ATI Radeon X1900 GT graphics cards in the Mac Pro. The updater application will be installed in the /Applications/Utilities folder. Please follow the instructions in the updater application to complete the process.
I must have missed the part when you actually told me what was new. Can someone find it? 5 points to the person that finds it.

Maybe it stops the $400 card from overheating and dying 2 days out of warranty.
This thread goes on for 16 pages about problems people have with that card:

According to the very last post, the update does fix someone's issues with artifacts. (But not completely.)
