Apple unleashes another AirPort update

Posted by Derik DeLong | Thursday, December 14, 2006 6:01 AM PT

Airport This is getting downright ridiculous. Apple needs to start paying the people that write up the descriptions for software updates by the word or something. AirPort Update 2006-002 released today in Apple’s words:

AirPort Update 2006-002 improves AirPort compatibility in the following computers: MacBook Pro (15-inch Core 2 Duo), MacBook Pro (17-inch Core 2 Duo), MacBook (13-inch Core 2 Duo)

Helpful. Really helpful. Apple, I’m begging you, tell us just a little bit of information. Not only will it allow me to fill out my posts a little more, but it’ll help your customers know why they want to apply updates such as these. I know most people will apply them without thinking, but not everyone has that frame of mind.

This is one of those cases where simplicity just isn’t a positive. A thorough description is a good thing.

I see where you are coming from, and I agree for the most part. In this case, though, everyone (obviously an over-statement) who has purchased a Core 2 Duo machine knows that their airport card sometimes/most of the time acts like a peice of bullcrap.

I'm not looking for a detailed explanation for this update because I know what's up with my machine.

I'm a firm believe in Update! Upate! Update!. Apple throws something at you via software update that involves the OS or drivers - update. Yes I sometimes find it curious as what is actually being tweaked and how, and I might expell some "pfftt" if it is vague, but I update nonetheless. I don't think people should rely on a description before applying an OS or security update. By OS, I'm including any driver update as well. These updates are there for a reason. Most likely, it's security.
