While I may have posted a solution to the audio popping problem introduced by Mac OS X 10.4.10, it wasn’t official and still dangerous. Thankfully Apple has responded and released not only Audio Update 2007-001, but has amended the updater to version 1.1 in order to prevent future updaters from experiencing the problem to begin with.
Apple says:
The Audio Update 2007-001 addresses an issue with version 1.0 of the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Update in which a “popping” sound might be heard with some external speakers on Intel-based Mac. This update is recommended for all Intel-based Macs running Mac OS X 10.4.10.
Note: Version 1.1 of the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Update is not affected by this issue and does not require the Audio Update 2007-001 update.
I can’t confirm this works, but could one of you afflicted readers be kind enough to?

Seems to have solved the issue.
