Apple today announced G4 Cube Take Two, a software update for the short-lived geometric Mac that was way powerful…and way expensive. From the press release:

G4 Cube Take Two is a software update for the original Power Mac G4 Cube and is packed with more than 300 new features and introduces a brand new desktop with Stacks, a new way to easily access files from the Dock; a redesigned Finder that lets users quickly browse and share files between multiple Macs; Quick Look, a new way to instantly see files without opening an application; Spaces, an intuitive new feature used to create groups of applications and instantly switch between them; and Time Machine, an effortless way to automatically back up everything on a Mac®.

G4 Cube Take Two is available immediately at Apple’s retail stores and through Apple Authorized Resellers for a suggested retail price of $129 (US).

In an interview with the Mothership, Apple Senior VP of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller explained why Apple decided to give the Cube another shot:

“It was a great product,” Schiller said. “Fast, powerful, functional, sexy. But it was ahead of its time, and out of the price range of most consumers. We saw how Apple TV Take Two revitalized interest in the fumbling Apple TV concept, and we want to replicate that turnaround with our other less-successful products.”

Schiller said to expect Take Two updates for other older products, such as the original Hockey Puck mouse, the Apple Lisa, and, interestingly, the NeXTcube.

I think you have a few too many people trying to "outblog" each other on this feed. I subscribe to it because I want to hear what's going on at Apple, not because I want to be amused by your clever writing style (and some of it truly is). In fact, I wish your posts would get to the point quicker without all the witty build up. Some of us would like to get the facts without the "entertainment".

Or is it just me and I'm on the wrong feed?

We approach it like, "Well, there are plenty of other places you can get straight-to-the-point, no-frills news, and we don't really want to be just another one of them."

We're a blog with relatively few writers who work on tough schedules, and it's not really practical for us to be a plain vanilla news site. Macworld, our overlords, are far more qualified for that, as are many other great Mac news sites.

We're the place to go you want that entertainment, and the personal takes, and unusual spins. That's what we do.

Unfortunately, these April Fools posts just aren't funny.

Gotta agree with Frank. Sorry. But I'm a killjoy, anyway, when it comes to April 1. I waste more time sifting through joke materials, I just want to keep the d*** computer off the net for the day.
