We mentioned Suspicious Package when it was initially released a couple of months ago. It’s a free and handy little Quick Look plugin that allows you to take a gander into all those packages you install every now and then before giving them the double click treatment.
Mothers Ruin Software (is it just me or are developers really running out of names for their companies?) released an upgrade to the plugin on 1 March that adds some much requested new features.
First and foremost, it now supports metapackages (the ones with the MPKG extension), which is quite a relief. Prior to this release, whether or not Suspicious Package would work on a package involved a lot of hit-and-miss. You’re now assured that, come what may, if it’s a package, it’s putty in the hands of this utility.
Apart from that, they’ve also added some handy new enhancements that allow Quick Look to indicate whether the package requires admin rights or not, which install scripts it has, and whether or not it would require a restart upon installation.
Another oft-requested feature still in the pipeline is support for displaying more specific information about the files to be installed, such as owner, permissions, and size. All in all, this should be a wonderful addition to your Quick Look library and if you don’t have it yet, you should probably head to the download page right now.
Thanks, again, to reader goobimama for the tip.
