10.4.9 brings new phone sync compatability

iSync Apple said it added new phone syncing compatibility with Mac OS X 10.4.9, but inconveniently for users, left out what was new. I’m going to have to start a new phone contract before the iPhone comes out, so I’ve been eyeing Motorola’s KRZR. Unfortunately, without a hack, syncing wasn’t a possibility, until this latest update. Because I love you all so much, I’ve researched what’s new.

  • Motorola K1 Bluetooth + USB
  • Motorola K1m Bluetooth + USB
  • Motorola V3m Bluetooth + USB
  • Motorola L2 Bluetooth + USB
  • Samsung D600 Bluetooth
  • Samsung D900 Bluetooth
  • Nokia N80 Bluetooth + USB
  • Nokia E61 Bluetooth + USB
  • Nokia E62 Bluetooth + USB
  • Nokia N71 Bluetooth + USB
  • Nokia N72 Bluetooth + USB
  • Nokia N73 Bluetooth + USB
  • Nokia N91 Bluetooth + USB
  • Nokia N93 Bluetooth + USB
  • Nokia 6102 Bluetooth
  • Nokia 6103 Bluetooth
  • Nokia 6131 Bluetooth + USB
  • Sony Ericsson K610i Bluetooth + USB
  • Sony Ericsson K790i Bluetooth + USB
  • Sony Ericsson K800i Bluetooth + USB
  • Sony Ericsson Z525a Bluetooth + USB

The first two are the Cingular and Verizon versions of the KRZR phone respectively. I’m still trying to decide which service as well. Verizon has treated me well when it comes to reception. Cingular has typically had better phone selection, has Rollover minutes, and will have the iPhone in the near future. Are there any other phones on the sync list that I should be considering?

if u talk a lot on the phone, having cingular will make u save money as the phone will not have any service most of the time

Why would you sign a new contract right now when the iPhone is coming out in three months? Why not just go month to month with your current carrier and switch then?

Dave said:

Yeah, what Alfredo said.

I've been contractless for years.

Starting a new contract can't be helped. I'm currently in a family plan. Due to how much my brother and I use the cell phone, we're starting to exceed the plan by quite a bit. My parents want to start a new contract soon to deal with this problem.

Basically, it's out of my control and if I want out of my family's plan, I need to do it now.

I've had verizon for years now, but have gotten increasingly annoyed with the crippled bluetooth. im in the bay area, where cingular reception is pretty solid (not quite as good as verizon's), so i think im going to switch when my contract is up in June

For those of you worried about contracts, here is a site that will save you some dough! It worked out for me and I avoided the $200.00 cancel fee from T-mobile :)

Whilst the N73 now syncs, you cannot connect addressbook via bluetooth for SMS / phone dialing etc.

If you try to, it asks for a paiing Key on the Mac but not on the ohone, so it never gets paired, despite the fact that the two are paired for iSync.

Well done Apple for the iSync but can we complete the service and allow addressbook to pair as well?

over half year using P990 - no sync so fare, now again nothing, thanks apple...

While Apple does a good job with syncing phones it does a less than stellar job supporting them in address book. My V3 RAZR, one of the most popular phones out there, is not supported in address book. While it will sync address book I cannot use address book to display incoming callers or to send SMS messages to contacts. I have to use Blue Phone elite to get those features but they are not integrated into address book! Come on Apple!

i tried synching my D900 and it doesnt seem to work, it says "iSync cannot connect to this device"

is there a way to find out which phones will work with what carriers? I'm thinking of switching carriers and would like to see the tmobile eligible phones. Or do I just have to buy an "unlocked" phone and bring it in?

Phil said:

Just installed the update and I ge the "iSync cannot connect to this device" for my RAZR V3m.

Bah.

I have successfully managed to sync my Samsung D900 without issue, what I can't do is use the dial or SMS commands in Address Book with it. Any news on this?
