Repair PermissionsPerhaps you’re too young to remember the Great Repair Permissions Debate of 2006. One part troubleshooting technique, one part voodoo magic, Repair Permissions is to OS X as zapping the PRAM was to OS 9. It’s touted as a panacea to any problems you might run into while using your Mac.

But what exactly does it mean—in a spiritual sense—to Repair Permissions? Your friend (and mine) Macworld Senior Editor Dan Frakes set out on a journey of discovery and adventure, and he’s eager to share the mystical knowledge he’s acquired with Mac users everywhere. Dan takes us through what permissions are, how they can become “damaged,” and what repairing them does. Not content with the procedural, he then dips his toes in the aforementioned debate, and explores whether or not Repairing Permissions is “a good thing.”

So if you’ve ever felt that your permissions are holding you back, kick up your feet and find out what you need to know about repairing permissions.
