iTunes 7 for Windows: Still no good?

Deleted!Like all Mac users, I sometimes find myself in discussions with friends who just don’t like Apple. I rarely find a topic that I leaves me without retort. Recently though, a friend pointed me to this video on YouTube. In it, a user catches iTunes deleting files without permission or even notification after doing so, and even with the Automatic Management option disabled.

I dismissed it as an isolated case, and even pointed to the proposed solution found in the comments, until a different friend, one who would probably be on OS X were it not for the fact that he prefers to pay for food and rent instead of operating system superiority, told me that he has experienced the same issue, multiple times. The solution in the video’s comments yielded no results.

I looked up and down for possible remedies to this phenomenon and came up empty handed, so I again turn to you, the ever-knowledgeable MacUser reader, to see if you’ve encountered any solution to this apparent bug. I’ll grant first person to solve his mystery 25 MU points, redeemable at no time in any place, yet still pretty nifty to have around.

Without more information to go by, I can't really be sure about this, but it seems like iTunes is somehow convinced the E:\ drive is an iPod.

This would make sense, if the iPod was previously mounted with an E:\ drive letter.

It would seem the workaround at the moment is to first check what drive letter the iPod mounts with, and then deliberately avoid setting other items to that drive letter.

Alternatively, there may be a way to get iTunes to expect the iPod on a higher drive letter, such as Z:\.

As drives tend to populate drive letters alphabetically, putting the iPod at a high drive letter would avoid such problems.

Hopefully Apple will figure out a proper solution to this problem soon.
