Get Parallels and Cisco VPN to play nice

Posted by Derik DeLong | Monday, June 18, 2007 7:24 AM PT

Parallels I mentioned at the end of my last rather frustrated post about Parallels that it screwed up my Cisco VPN client. I wrote to their support and got a prompt response that fixed my issue.

Please try the following: 1. Restart the Mac 2. Open Macintosh HD - Applications - Utilities - Terminal 3. Issue the “sudo /System/Library/StartupItems/CiscoVPN/CiscoVPN restart” command 4. Check if VPN client works again.

If it doesn’t help, please send us the outputs of the following commands from the Terminal: 1. kextstat | grep cisco 2. ifconfig -a

Luckily the first set of instructions worked like a charm. I naturally wanted to follow up and figure out if I’d have to do this every time I reboot (if so, it was a short term fix, not a long term one). Support was responsive again.

Unfortunately you will have to do it every time you restart your Mac. We are working on a fix at the moment. We plan to implement it in 3.1 update.

I know not everyone had this problem, but quite a few have and if you’re one of the unlucky ones, this should help you out.

As a follow up to the last post, I used that trial key until I received my new one later last week.
