Firmware Passwords and U

Keychain Did you know that if you use the capital letter “U” in a firmware password, it won’t be recognized. Yikes. That’s a recipe for disaster. It’s a bit old (2003 era) and affects:

  • iBook (all models)
  • iMac (Slot Loading) and later models
  • eMac
  • PowerBook (FireWire) and later models
  • Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics) and later models
  • Power Mac G4 Cube - all models

I personally don’t use firmware passwords (because they don’t have much value because they can be wiped out by changing the RAM amount). This pretty much cements my belief against it.
