I don’t know about you, but with my propensity to write, I work with text editors on a fairly regular basis. TextEdit, TextWranger, and WriteRoom (which I use to write these posts) are all fairly regular parts of my day. Sometimes, I find myself in a situation that calls for highlighting text in a vertical, not horizontal fashion. I used to just curse under my breath at the lack of such functionality, then select each section line by line, but not anymore.
It turns out that simply holding the “Option” key will allow you to highlight in the vertical manner that I so desired. Now it doesn’t work in every app mind you, but in all of the text editors I’ve tried (the ones listed above,) I’ve had success.
