The Little Stuff: push windows across Space(s)

spaces111.jpgIf you thought I was joking about posting as many of the cool mini-features of Leopard as I could find, you obviously don’t know me very well. And that hurts. It really does. But it’s OK: because of this, we’re a little closer, we’re better friends. And I’m happy about that. I’m glad we could bond. So anyway, let’s get crankin’:

We’re all familiar with the most visually-awesome method of moving windows from one space to another — popping into Spaces view and dragging windows between the different desktops.

But fooling around the other day I discovered another method of doing it, which I mentioned in our podcast (but know I need to mention it again because some of you don’t listen to our podcasts…yeah people, I’m on to you): On any desktop, grab a window and push it (and your cursor) along the side of your display in the direction of whichever space you want the window to go. After a second, your desktop switches and the window follows your cursor into the new space.

Not only is it cool, it also saves you a few clicks. And it’s cool.

I was very excited for Leapord, particularly for spaces. I have been suing multiple desktops on my Windows and Linux computers for years and it was one of the features I had been waiting for on OSX. I have to say I am disappointed and underwhelmed. Spaces is laking a keyboard shortcut to move a window between desktops. While it is nice to be able to move a window with the mouse being able to move windows with keyboard makes the feature a whole lot more useful. If I can switch spaces with ctrl-arrow why can't I move a window between spaces with shit-ctrl-arrow? I can't figure out why Apple ignored this feature when all of the competition has had it for a long time.

Well, aren't you lucky: there actually *is* a keyboard shortcut. Via Paul Kafasis:

Click on the window, hold, and use the keyboard shortcut for the space you want to go to (ie, ctrl + right).

Voila!

I'll be posting about this in a bit.

Unless I am misunderstanding what your saying that still requires a mouse. If I am working in a terminal and want to switch it to another space I would like to be able to do so without the mouse... Am i missing something?
