Secret Window: something you (probably) never knew about Safari

Activity WindowMacworld’s one-and-only hint master Rob Griffiths is at it again, this time with a hint that blew me out of the virtual water. It’s Safari’s Activity window! The what window, you say? Exactly.

Under the Window menu of Safari there’s an option to display the “Activity” window. This little window does all kinds of cool and tricky things. See Rob’s article for a full explanation, but here’s a few of my favorite tricks you can perform with the Activity window:

  • Find out the source of a page load error
  • View a page’s CSS or JavaScript coding
  • View embedded Flash or QuickTime movies in their own window
  • Download things off a page
  • Create bookmark sets of all open tabs

I’d always been control-clicking, opening new pages in their own tabs, and occasionally downloading the source code to find URLs of embedded videos. This adds a whole new dimension to web browsing that I never before thought possible.

Yes, I saw this and was just as surprised as you were. How the heck did I miss this great feature? Browsing will never be the same.
