Leopard: Spotlight brightens Mail’s search

Leopard Mail searchLast month we pointed you towards some handy tips about searching with Spotlight in Leopard using specially-crafted keywords to restrict your search in powerful ways. But as our friends over at Mac OS X Hints point out, the Spotlight menu doesn’t get to have all the fun.

Since Mail.app relies on the same underlying architecture as Spotlight, you can use the same keywords to search through your email. Even more useful in mail are the use of keywords like subject: and from:. You can even combine multiple keywords into on query, thus finding all emails from a particular contact that whose subject contains the word, er, “kumquat.” For example. You know, if you do a lot of corresponding about fruit.
