I dig the Front Row. It’s hardly a perfect app (try using it to fast forward through fifteen minutes of video using only the remote), but it’s great for when I want to watch TV off my laptop, something I do pretty frequently. But while MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini fans have long been enjoying Front Row’s powers, Mac Pro owners have been left out in the icy cold.
Until now. Mac OS X Hints has the low down on getting Front Row working on your Mac Pro. The problem is twofold: one, Front Row not being configured to run, you need to find the executable for it; two, it’s not technically supposed to run unless it detects the Apple Remote. This part is a little more challenging; fooling it into thinking you do have the remote involves a bit of hacking that may depend on what brand mouse you use.
Of course, getting Front Row running still leaves Mac Pro users remoteless. Apple, how about an IR receiver/AppleRemote bundle for these guys, eh?
